If you want to keep your gaiwan looking like new, I recommend cleaning the unglazed part thoroughly with baking soda once in a while. This will remove any tea stains.

MATERIAL USED
For the Ivory series, I use selected stoneware with a high quartz content. It combines the heat resistance of clay with an almost porcelain appearance. The color, taste and aroma of tea from this ivory series is perfect and pure. It is also suitable for profesional tasting a tea. According to my measurements, this material does not absorb as much heat as porcelain. Water remains at a higher temperature and also cools more slowly than porcelain. The ceramic is electrically fired at a temperature of 1250 °C. The surface is treated with a transparent feldspar-based glaze.
